KES on its 4th Summer Reading Camp

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headed by Chairman Emerson Carlos, together with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and the Department of Interior and Local Government, on June 22, 2016 held a second Metro Manila-wide earthquake drill in anticipation of a possible 7.2 magnitude earthquake, dubbed as the “Big One,” that might hit the nation’s capital.

Government agencies believe that regular earthquake drills would strengthen the country’s capability to effectively respond to natural disasters. The drill was simultaneously conducted in different schools, agencies, companies, establishments, government and private offices.

In this connection Kalayaan Elementary School administrators, teachers, staffs, and pupils showed their support and preparedness to respond on in case of an earthquake. Mr. Ronel Zacarias, School’s Chairman for School Risk Reduction Management Committee led the conduction of the drill. The pupils were trained to do the duck, cover and hold technique. They were oriented and guided with the safest evacuation area.

KES on its 4th Summer Reading Camp

The Curriculum and Learning Management Division, DepEd NCR conducted the 2016 Summer Reading Camp across all learning areas in an inclusive setting. Kalayaan Elementary School had its 4th Summer Reading Camp on April 1-14 for Able and Struggling Pupils. This year’s theme is “I Can Read and Play” IREAP that speaks of children’s basic right to play and how their interest in reading can be fulled through games and play.

Summer Reading Camp is an activity which follows the Integrated Approach to teaching and learning where all subjects were involved focusing on reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, this activity certainly addressed not only the existing problems on reading deficiencies of our learners but nurture and hone the individual’s love of reading, thus exposing them to various learning opportunities where reading skills were enclosed through play, fun games, oral interpretation, videos, and other enjoyable activities. This activity was an outdoor activity-outside the four walls of their classrooms.
