State of the School Address (SOSA) serves as a crucial platform for administrators and leaders to communicate with stakeholders about the status, achievements, challenges, and future direction of the school. This highlights key areas of focus, academic progress, updates on infrastructure, initiatives, and strategies to overcome obstacles.
On November 9, 2023 at 2:00 in the afternoon, stakeholders rallied at Kalayaan Elementary School’s Covered Court to lend an ear to the State of the School Address. It started with a quote from Henry Ford, “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is success” followed by an opening prayer led by Mrs. Lilia L. De Guzman, Master Teacher I followed by a nationalistic song and Pasay Hymn through an audio-visual presentation. Dr. Sharon M. Sergio, PSDS of Cluster 6 shared some words of welcome and inspiration as she graced the SOSA on behalf of Dr. Arturo A. Tolentino, ASDS, OIC-School Principal who had some equally important matters to attend to on that day. SELG officers rendered a dance number to prepare the stakeholders’ eyes and ears for a more comprehensive discussion in the next minutes or hours.
To introduce Kalayaan Elementary School to the stakeholders, Mrs. Sally D. Bolaños, Master Teacher 1 presented the School Profile including the demographic information, curriculum options and/or special requirements giving highlight on the quality of teaching the school offers to every school child.
As an institution, KES took this excellent opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of learners, teachers, staff, and the wider school community. Mrs. Sarena E. Inalisan, Master Teacher I shared the academic achievements, extracurricular successes, and recognition of outstanding groups and individuals of the school that foster a sense of pride and motivation among stakeholders. While celebrating success is important, the SOSA also acknowledges and confronts the challenges faced by the school community. Be it limited resources, budget constraints, fluctuating enrollments, or societal shifts impacting education, addressing these challenges openly and honestly builds transparency and trust amongst stakeholders. Mrs. Rialeza A. Castillo, Master Teacher I, Dr. Maria Jesusa S. Zacarias, Master Teacher I and Mrs. Angelica E. Sergio, Master Teacher II presented the school’s performance indicators, Access, Quality and Governance respectively giving the stakeholders a sneak peek of how KES have been doing to shape and nurture their children to be more prepared in achieving their dreams.
It’s an obvious fact that administrators need to outline concrete plans and strategies to mitigate the obstacles and ensure that learners are not adversely affected by them. In which, at the same day, KES launched the different Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) that will help the school cater the needs of the learners and encourage the stakeholders to get involved in finding solutions which cultivates a sense of ownership and shared responsibility.
KES Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) are the following:
- BATA, BATA, HUWAG KANG MAWAWALA presented by the proponents Ms. Nora C. Relaniza and Mrs. Realiza A. Castillo.
- PROJECT GRACE (GO FOR READING WITH ACCURACY, COMPETENT AND ENRICHMENT) presented by the proponents Mrs. Grace P. Valdez and Mrs. Cristine E. Nolledo.
- PROJECT SALES (SAFE LEARNING SCHOOL NG SDRRMC) presented by the proponent Mr. Ronel A. Zacarias
- PROJECT KES-MRF (KALAYAAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL-MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY) presented by Mrs. Maricar L. Tabuac and Mrs. Analee S. Gatdula, project proponents.
There were intermission numbers in between talks to break the monotony and keep the audience alive and alert. To whatever vision and goals articulated by the school community, it is significant to involve parents, strengthen community partnerships, highlight the role of parents, guardians, and community members in fostering a positive learning environment to achieve the set goals. Administrators should also stress the importance of cultivating critical thinking, digital literacy, creativity, and socio-emotional skills to prepare the learners for a rapidly changing world. By outlining specific initiatives, such as curriculum enhancements, professional development opportunities, and innovative teaching methods, leaders inspire confidence and excitement for the school’s future.
At exactly 5:00 in the afternoon, the SOSA Cum Launching of PPAs Year 2 was commenced with the Closing Remarks which was delivered by Mrs. Maricar L. Tabuac, Master Teacher I. Dr. Bryan B. Barbon, Master Teacher I served as the Master of Ceremonies of this meaningful engagement.
True to the school’s vision, KES ensures that every learner becomes the best “them” they can be.
